Flipkart founder Sachin Bansal accused of dowry harassment: report | Sci-Tech

Sachin Bansal, India’s technology entrepreneur and founder of Flipkart is facing complaint of dowry harassment by his wife Priya Bansal, reported Indian publication Business Standard on Thursday. 

According to the FIR filed at Koramangala police station Bengaluru against Bansal, the complainant Priya Bansal named four members of the family, including Sachin Bansal, his father Satprakash Aggarwal, mother Kiran Bansal and brother Nitin Bansal.

The FIR was filed under two sections of 498A (dowry harassment), 34 (criminal intent) and under section 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Priya Bansal has made the allegation and said that the harassment began at the time of her match-making with Sachin Bansal. 

She claims that her father had spent 50 lacs on her wedding and gave a cash gift of 11 lacs to her husband in place of car. She further claimed that her husband pressurized her to surrender her property to him and upon refusal, she was pestered by her in-laws.

In her complaint against the Bansals, she also alleged physical assault by her husband who demanded money from her and asked her to concede their jointly owned properties in his name.

Sachin co-founded Flipkart, which is e-commerce company based in Bengaluru, India. After the company was acquired by Flipkart in 2018 for $16 billion, he exited the company. 

During his 11-year tenure in India, he served as CEO of the company and Executive Chairman. Currently, Bansal is transforming himself into a venture capitalist as he is investing in many startups including Ola which received a significant investment of $100 million by him.
